Art and whimsy in Mineral Point

A village in southwest Wisconsin was settled by Cornish miners.

Mineral Point, less than an hour west of Madison, is an adorable town. Artists now occupy its stone cottages and storefronts, many built in the 1840s by Cornish miners.

What to do:  Go to the Saturday-morning Mineral Point Market. Shop in galleries on High Street. Take a class at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts.

Events to catch: May 2-4, Historic Preservation Weekend. June 1, Tour of Fairy Homes and Gallery Night.
